Exclusive Interview: Flux Pavilion

Safe In Sound, a touring music festival featuring Adventure Club, Flux Pavilion, Destroid, Excision, Zeds Dead and more, kicks off tonight in Milwaukee with over 20 additional tour dates to follow. Tickets for Safe In Sound can be purchased for all dates HERE.

The festival is setting a new standard for bass music production, a new kind of festival experience unlike any other, and takes the States by storm this September and October. The touring festival will utilize the most powerful touring sound system every used for an electronic dance music tour, sure you make you "feel the pounding in your chest and rumble underneath your feet."

To prepare for the bass heavy madness Safe In Sound is sure to bring, we took some time to chat with Flux Pavilion, one of the headliners for the fall festival. The 25 year-old dubstep DJ and producer from the UK told us more about his plans for on the road during Safe In Sound, his memorable touring experiences, some upcoming collaborations - and more!

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: When did you first decide to dip your feet in the pond of electronic music, and how did you learn?

I wrote lots of it for about 10 years, and then developed an understanding of how to do it. Writing music is about hearing something in your head, then having the ability to turn it into something everyone else can listen to.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Name a few of your musical influences, and why they have been so influential in your music career.

I like people that write music that feels legit, like David Bowie and Frank Zappa. Their music feels like it comes from them, from somewhere creative. I'm into everything that, when you close your eyes and listen to it, you can tell it was made by people that really love it.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: If you could work with anyone in the music industry, any genre, who would it be?

Julian Casablancas - he's awesome, that would be so fun!

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What is your favorite city in the world to perform in, or one that you're looking forward to performing in or returning to on the Safe In Sound tour?

Choosing a favorite city is like choosing a favorite child. There probably is one, but you're not going to tell them. It's not fair. It's a shame I'm not playing in Atlanta this year, though.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What are some upcoming plans (releases, studio sessions, etc.) that we can look forward to from you in the coming months?

Other than heading out on the Safe In Sound tour, I'm working really hard on a new album coming out next year.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Do you have any upcoming collaborations you can share with us?

I haven't been doing a lot of collaborations recently, instead just really focusing on FLux. Though recently, I've been working with Anamanaguchi, who are a really cool Brooklyn-based act. That stuff should be coming out soon!

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What are you most excited for in regards to heading out on your trek across the States for the Safe In Sound tour?

I have so much music I've been writing, and I've got production set up on the road, so I'll be able to write then play it right away. I'm excited to finish my album while being amidst the tour, I'll be able to play out music, then get back on the bus and change it up, then play it differently the next day.

EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Finally, what has been your most memorable experience while touring thus far in your career?

Annoyingly, the things that should be the most memorable, you always forget with the amount of drinking involved. I've got many memorable headaches.
