TBD Fest: Festival History
TBD Fest, scheduled to take place October 3rd-5th in Sacramento, has a strong history that started with the creative mind of Michael Hargis in 2007. The festival previously went by the name of LAUNCH and was celebrated as a one-day event to honor Sacramento's creative community - art, music, food, fashion, architecture and more!
LAUNCH took place at Greens Hotel for four years, and was known to be curated by some of the city's brightest and most admirable artists in the region. The festival allowed these talented artist to showcase their work or perform their musical material for larger audiences, introducing themselves to the community and the other local, regional and national talent partaking in the event.
Ahead of its time, Michael Hargis and Clay Nutting felt the opportunity to turn the one-day festival at one single location into a weekend long extravaganza at various venues had finally come. In 2012, the founders pulled in big-names in the industry to perform at the festival, including DJ Shadow, The Joy Formidable, Grouplove, Future Islands, Chromeo and !!!. In 2013, the festival "doubled down and grew from one-major music festival day to two", with performances from Washed Out, Minus the Bear, Cults, Girl Talk, Imagine Dragons and more.
LAUNCH aka TBD Festival remains true to their original and creative idea, to focus on artistic talent, showcasing artists of all kinds to the local audiences of Sacramento and traveling fans from around the country, or even the world. LAUNCH has grown to be one of the largest festivals in Northern California, but remains more than just an outdoor multi-day music festival event - much like SXSW, Governor's Ball and Fun Fun Fun.

This year is no different, and TBD Fest is sure to blow festival go-ers away with the massive acts the event is bringing in. Multi-genre names including Blondie, Moby, Explosions in the Sky, Dillon Francis, Gramatik, Empire of the Sun and more will take the stages during the first weekend of October. Join us on the Sacramento River in West Sacramento's Bridge District for a weekend filled with music, design, food and ideas as we celebrate TBD Fest's 7th birthday.
