EDM Community Responds To The Election

November 8, 2016. A date that will forever have an impact on the United States. As you all know the political race was narrowed down to two candidates, technically three but if you’ve been keeping up with John Oliver you’d know Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson was more preoccupied with Mount Everest than the election(link to Johnson’s mountain fetish can be found here). It was narrowed to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and with 279 electoral votes Donald Trump became the President elect.

The results have left many in shock and afraid. The Canadian immigration website crashed due to the amount of people wanting to flee the country as soon as we found out who our 45th president was going to be. Celebrities and public faces have been quick to show their support and share their opinions regarding the results of the election. The dance music community in particular, whose foundation is built upon diversity, equality and inclusivity was quick to get on social media and share their thoughts.

This is not the result so many had hoped for. Yes it has brought fear and created a divide, but it has also brought forth a generation of people who are empowered and are willing to fight for what is right. Many influential people are turning to hope and love over hate and are encouraging others to do the same.
