Exclusive Interview: Bassjackers
Bassjackers are continuously blowing the minds of electronic dance music fans, and their newest release is no different. "Savior" is a classic big-room track and bound to be a dance floor banger. With a huge, exciting build up and an extremely heavy drop, you can't help but go nuts when you hear this new beat.
It was in 2007, when two friends decided to sit down and create music together, that Bassjackers was formed. Consisting of one DJ and one producer, Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst joined forces to collaborate together and create their own music.
To prepare for when Bassjackers invade Chico (alongside Dyro) on December 4th at Senator Theatre, we sat down with the electro-house duo for an interview discussing their upcoming tour, new releases, what they're currently listening to in their spare time - and more!
EPIC PRODUCTIONS: How did you first get your start in music?
BASSJACKERS: (Ralph) I heard about the possibility that one could make music on a computer, and theoretically one could make people dance everywhere. I got so fascinated by that thought and dove into all that music had to offer! (Marlon) I first started practicing DJing in my bedroom, and soon after that I got to play at our local club.
EPIC PRODUCTIONS: Who are some of your musical influences?
A lot! We really love the energy rock bands like Queens of the Stone Age or The Foo Fighters offer, but melodic stuff like Phoenix or Zero 7 influence us. Also, recent artists like Afrojack & Sidney Samson really influenced how the Bassjackers sound has evolved.
EPIC PRODUCTIONS: If you could work with anyone in the industry, who would it be?
Phoenix and Calvin Harris, both are pure genius.
EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What is your most memorable experience from this past touring season?
We really liked the shows at Ushuaia in Ibiza. Ibiza is always special and Ushuaia is such a cool venue. It was a crazy summer. Some other highlights are closing EDC Vegas' main stage, Tomorrowland and Tomorrowworld!!
EPIC PRODUCTIONS: What are you upcoming plans in regards to releases, more touring, studio sessions, etc?
We're really excited because our new solo track "Savior" was just released on Spinnin'! Furthermore, we finished a new collaboration with Dyro. Those studio sessions are always special, he's really talented! And we got something special coming up with Coone - expect some next level stuff. On top of that we are kicking off our X Tour with Dyro this Wednesday during ADE, and a 30+ show headlining bus tour in North America, which you're sure to see us on!

The sunrise at the closing of EDC Vegas was most certainly an EPIC moment.
